Community Service

The 31st District Court Community Service program is administered by the Court’s Probation Department. The program typically runs from March through December, and meets every other Saturday at the Hamtramck City Hall building at 8:00a. Program participants perform work around the Hamtramck community, and also at the City Hall building.

The judge or magistrate may order community service work in lieu of payment to assist defendants in satisfying their debt to the Court when there is a demonstrated inability to pay. Also, the judge and magistrate reserve discretion to order community service in cases where the defendant is likely to benefit more from working in the community, as opposed to simply paying fines and costs to the Court.
